Lost papers - OZ import

delate, Feb 17, 8:45am
My partners friend imported a car approx 5 years ago from Sydney and my partner bought the car off him (as silly as this sounds they didn't do change of ownership etc). Now that my partner has the car rebuilt and road worthy we need the paperwork but the last owner/importer (friend) had a flood wipe out their entire house and all the paperwork has gone.Does anyone know a good web site or can offer advice on how to go about getting his car registered/certified for NZ roading. Many thanks

Good luck, but without the original paperwork I think you will find it impossible to get on the road here. I hope for your sake I am wrong, but I don't think I am.

Thanks, I can see it's going to be a mission. Someone mentioned to try NSW Road Trade Assocaition but I'm hopeless on the net trying to find out what guff I need. That's why I was hoping someone might know something about this sort of situation. Might just sent him into vehicle testing (on foot) to see what they say. Cheers

This might help

You are definitely going to have to provide a papertrail that goes back to NSW, good luck.

The last registered owner in NSW will need to contact NSW Roads & Traffic Authority http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/Request duplicate coppies of the registration papers or something to confirm that it was registered. Then you can fill out this NZTA form and send it in
