my old man has a 2007 (i think) mazda atenza mazdaspeed version.
has 18" rims wrapped with 225/40/18. he used to have a BMW with goodyear GSD3 tyres and liked them alot, he has the equivalent on his new car now. but, apparently this model has been superceeded and he doesnt like the new design as its let go on the back of his car before. so can anyone reccomend a tyre as good or better in a similar price bracket. he was paying about $330 a tyre for the GSD3s so give or take $50 should be fine. TIA

I've had pretty good experiences with Continental Premium Contact II and Sport Contact and Toyo T1R.

ive seen that thread, most in there are assymetrical tyres i think. he refuses to use them as he thinks directional are alot better in his personal experience. he wont use anything chinese, GT radial or toyo. and is unsure on falken

Toyo makes some pretty good tyres but if he's that anal about tyres then i'd say go with Continental's. I had them on some of my old cars and they are very good.

how do the conti's stack up against something like pirelli! i told him the p-zeros were pretty good but im not even sure they make them anymore

Never used the P-zero's or been in a car with them so wouldn't know how good they really are.

i had 295 wide pirelli P/zeros on a bmw 740i
it got alot looser and slid alot more on them than it did on the 265 dunlop SP sports it had previously

Personally I think Contis are overrated, overpriced and not particularily suitable for NZ conditions. Pirelli - Good - Michys - Good, but still I favour the likes of Yokohama and Falken

i've had 2 continental contisports grow bulges in the tread area with still 3-4mm on them - rendering them useless.there goes half a tyre.

this is without abuse- no skids, no rough usage, always inflated correctly

If the car tends to let go at the back, maybe an after-market anti roll bar might be a worthwhile investment! Or/and some adjustable damping shocks.

its never happened with the GSD3s he had on there, but when he put the new version on it did, so he changed to a reccomended assymetrical and that was worse. its already has loads of suspension extras and he doesnt drive it that hard. he just likes the grip there when required.

with some sizes this is the case not the type of tyre. also why dont you just take it back to the tyreshop and they will credit it

Try the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08
