might help to note which Pajero you're talking about. but yes I would say the 4WD gearbox from the late 80s Pajero 2.5 diesel will bolt to the 1992 L200 diesel engine. The early 90s Pajeros are 'super select' and should be different to the L200 box, though could work if the whole super select vacuum system and electronic control were fitted.

if it helps i know that the v5m21 box from a 97 l200 4d56t is the same box in th early 90s LO44 pajero.

I think the vans had the same running gear as the pajero.

vans are column/cable shift and Pajero isn't.

yeah you're right sorry I mis-read. Am pretty sure the early 90s Pajeros started using the steel cased V5MT1 manual box on 2.5 TD while the L200's carried on with the smaller alloy case V5M21. The 80s Pajero would have used the V5M21 or the older equivalent (think it's KM145).
