Partner purchased a 2002 Subaru Impreza from a dealer back in November. After having it for a week whilst taking his foot off the accelerator between 50-60kms the car starts surging. It has been back to the car yard and two different mechanics (one being a Subaru specialist) and they can find no fault. My partner has provided video footage to both the car sales and both mechanics. This car is currently at the mechanic and has been for the past week. They have emailed this evening advising what he is experiencing whilst driving is normal. Since he owned it he has had it probably 50% of this time. I must also note that the car only has 11,000kms on it. Any advice on what the problem may be or where he stands in terms of returning the vehicle would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have they said what has been looked at or tested so far!Surging is something that you would associate with an underfuelling problem, ie its running too lean, or maybe even an idle control system fault. If the fault is there consistently and can be reproduced, a decent scan tool should be able get access to the data the engine ECU is sending and receiving, even if it hasn't logged any codes.Good luck.
