Really! Spose that was a genuine part though, some of the dealers in NZ add a ridiculous amount of markup over the buy price that they actually get them in from.

I remember a steering rack we had to get in for a Territory from Australia, the buy price from the Ford Plant there was $7.5k, then to buy from Ford NZ was $15k, then from a Ford Dealer in Auckland where the part was stocked was about $20k. Just as well it was under warranty so Ford can cover there own markup! Feel sorry for some customers some times, the simplest of parts have ridiculous price markups and other parts are stupidly cheap for what they are.

Agreed on that topic. I was quoted $6K for a turbo yet was able to land the same thing from a Ford dealer in QLD for under $2K.
Crap like that is what costs Ford NZ reputation that they can ill afford to lose.

if its just for the mrs to run round in and tow the boat do you really need a turbo one

You seem to know your fords, I have a BA Fairmont V8 90,000kms and it has developed a shudder in the brakes, really bad at say 100kms p/hr not to noticeable around town, what "better quality" rotors and pads would you recommend!I haven't had time to have a look myself yet, someone suggested to me since the car was only a Sunday driver that maybe the rotors were getting sticky! Not working properly! But I think as you say they might just have bad brakes!

i swear your account has been taken over by a 12 year old

the turbo XR6 has roughly the same highway economy as the non turbo

A lot of people start with replacing rotors, which isn't always needed. Most cases the pushrod clearance between the booster and master cylinder is too small - in that there is a little bit of pressure always on the brakes. We have a tool made up at work for this, but you can undo the master cylinder (2x nuts), get some vice grips and pull out the pushrod, screw in the bolt/adjuster and reassemble (MAKE sure the Seal in the booster stays in place, otherwise you will have a very hard pedal!)

Jason says :- "RUST can become an issue now, as they are up to 8-9 years old. Stick your head inside the boot and look up under the parcel tray near the corners by where the seatbelt mounts are. I have seen large holes there. The panel edges fret and they have no protection only paint.
Check inner sills on the flat panel, and with the bonnet up, check around the tops of the inner guards, they normally have a rust stain along the panel seams, but no rust there."
For me , this type of stuff is what keeps me out of any Aussie designed/built car , the design of water-run areas / door shut gap tolerences / overall finish , is too much of a gamble between a car that is great to own , and one that is a nightmare. A shame because they make some of the better-looking cars.

Of course he does. That's like asking if he 'really needs' two testicles.

any idea why Turbo Territory would be worse than Falcon! they are the same engine after all!

unbeatabull, Jan 22, 11:28pm
I can only but assume its to do with the conditions they drive in and under, dirty roads, more load on vehicle/engine etc. They do have a intake and intercooler system too but I doubt that'd make any difference.

The turbo territory is a lot harder to replace the filter on too! Lose quite a bit of skin and blood doing that sucker

yes the territory is alot higher on the road , there is more wind resistance, look at the rake angles of the windows etc., probably slightly heavier.
