Still having a starter issue

got a tilton style reduction starter for the 350 in my saloon. Starter isnt quite catching the flywheel. Sometimes you have to add shims to space the starter out, its not quite catching with no shims so i am thinking i may have to get a fanny hair milled off the Aluminium mounting block to bring the bendix closer into the flywheel, anyone else had or heard of this issue!

To confirm it's not seating correctly, I would suggest spray painting the bendix gear cog (let dry of course) & then refit & try it / remove & inspect the paint wear marks.
That way theres no guessing about how much contact meshing you have.

you can see its not seating, dont need paint to show me that, Was told at racing last night there is a 7 tooth and a 13 tooth throwout gear that these have, I have the 7 tooth and obviously will need the 13 tooth which is slightly bigger in diameter. Wish i had been told earlier grrrrrrr
