Which engine to transpant in to my zed.

doomy999, Apr 21, 12:20pm
Just got this 280z yesterday. it is 1979 datsun 280z with 170 original km on it.
the straight six is fine but am thinking about putting something different in the engine bay. I want something that I can get some serious H.P.out of. Something that will leaveV8 owners crying in the milksop and lolly water.
I was planing either get a 13B rotary or a V-Tech. Just wondering if anyone here has done such job on a zed!TIA for any advice.

Why blow money on a classic car that is original.it's worth more together than apart.

My suggestion to you would be.get a MR2 and chuck out the rotton engine in the back and stick a Commodore engine in the front.I've done the measurements and it would fit a treat.cept for the great lump in the bonnet which would look mighty.be a beaut.

The lexusV8 was a popular swap for those , being a heavyslug .240 Z was by far the best model .

If it already has a straight six then surely you would consider a turbo straight six from a later Skyline such as an RB25det.

detroit diesel
zoomie exhausts out the bonnet
turn down the injectors to get it pumping coal

This will be awesome

Wow 10000+cc and it only makes 800hp hahaha that would have been good back in 1975 to bad people are geting that from 1600cc these days

It's the v8 torque available from idle that would kill a 1600.

Why not go for a Nissan V8 engine such as the VK series!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_VK_engine
The styling of the 280Z is very American (long bonnet) and the VK was used extensively in American Nissans. The VK was also preferred over the VR38DETT for Japanese GT racing so there is pedigree and a link to the modern GT-R.
The rotor and VTEC options suit light weight and nimble cars which the 280Z is not, assuming that you weren't trolling.
A 1979 car with 170,000kms can't be considered 'original', it's closer to worn out.

th rb26 is an easier transplant as you won't have to buy a greddy intake manifold like you do with the rb25
