cuda.340, Apr 20, 2:52am
big block, small block 1x4bbl 1x2bbl 3x2bbl 2x4bbl! you need to be a little specific
my toy drinks 3x litres per mile so you don't want to drive that any real distance.

gunhand, Apr 20, 2:54am
brother had a 440 plymouth for a while, think it got something stupid like 7mpg, wasnt cheap to run at all and fuel was cheap then to.

The op means consumption of a v8 for fuel. Not the price of what fuel currently sells for. Aka how much does a v8 use per xx km's etc

LOL, Stating the obvious, I love it!

When it comes to a big ol American classic it's "Smiles to the gallon, not miles to the gallon".I would never have bought mine if I was worried about the price of petrol.

quickbuck, Apr 20, 4:15am
OP Why ask! Are you planing to buy a V8, then worry about the amount of fuel it uses! It is a V8 FFS. Who cares. they wern't invented to save the planet. They are for making one smile.

As an aside I have found the LS1 is better on fuel than the 2.6 Misti.

how long is a piece of string. all v8's are different, what size v8,, 302, 351, 350, 464,there are different size carburetors,my buddies standard 350 chev camaro is getting12 mpg city and 14 mpg highon a good day

bent_ate, Apr 20, 11:47am
I couldnt agree more! Who cares, if your worried about fuel consumption you should not be buying an american v8! Im building a blowin big block for the Chev, who cares bout fuel!

richardmayes, Apr 20, 2:43pm
It's not the fuel consumption, it's how high you can piss up the wall that counts.
Just buy it, then everyone will know what a real manly man you are.

[My old man's v8 got between 20 and 21MPG on the open road, but that was a sensible little 3.5 litre Rover running decent SU carbs.]

my 85 transam with fresh worked 305 all the goodies cost less to go to auckland and back than a 1996 opel 2 liter 5 speed manual

clark20, Apr 24, 5:35pm
My one does 11-12 on a trip and 16-18 around town, about 20% more than my old V6 which was 1/2 the size.

holden torana 308 4barrel, cam, headers, 5 speed, 2.78 diff about 40 -45 lt picton to chch at 130-140km. mate following in his holden ute 350 4barrel, cam, headers turbo350, think his diff was a 3.36 ratio used 70-80 lt. but who cares they still making fuel, and the smile on ya face when you get there priceless.

This must be like the choice between buying the V8 or the 6 equivalent of the same car. You use 2 litres less in petrol every 100km in the 6, but when you go to sell the v8 it actually holds its value.

jason18, Apr 24, 6:06pm
Its amazing in the amount of people that ask me that about the valiant and its only a straight 6. I always reply smiles not miles. You dont buy an old cruiser if you are worried about gas. It seems its now the worlds biggest issue how much fuel a car uses.

quickstitch, Apr 24, 6:30pm
if only get 178kms out of a tank of gas and one day out of new rear tyres and your still smiling then its well worth it.

Some people must have nice deep pockets.

Im looking at buying an all american muscle car in the future, (once the new property has got everything we need on it), and Im sure as heck not gunna be worrying about fuel for it. I have always wanted something like a 68-69 SS Camaro and whatever the price (within wifeys agreeing range of course), I WILL get it. It has been my goal in life to own one and Im sure as heck not gunna let fuel stop me. This dream maybe a few years away but I will make it happen

townie55, Apr 24, 8:38pm
C'mon hotlegend.Put your foot down now and demand you get it this year. We'll all stand behind you on this MB!

jason18, Apr 24, 9:23pm
car or sex.car or sex.car or sex! CAR!

hotlegend, Apr 25, 3:30am
HAHAHAHA mmmmmmmmm yeh im with jason18. If I had the choice between the camaro that I want or sex! If only I had a spare $89,000. Well thats the top end one thats on here that would love to get. Well have to just stick with my two jappas at the mo. Well one is a 3 litre project car waiting to be painted and other is a 3litre work hack. So long story short Im def not worried about fuel. In total between wife and I we own 3 cars that are 3litres and maintain them and run cheaper than alot of smaller engine cars.

took my windsor up to new plymouth frm wanganui this weekend.filled it and reset trip meter before leaving.its done jus over 470kms so far and its a wisker under half on the gauge.thats cruising at 100 with bursts up to 120 when over taking.ok its not carby but its nearly 15 years old.
by the way it took $140 to fill from the fuel lite just coming on.
