Nissan Avenir fuel pump.

Car wouldnt start. Was obviously not spark and by the time we had flattened the battery we had diagnosed fuel and probably the pump. Unhooked battery and recharged it. Refitted and the car started instantly. Theory is that the ecu recorded a fault code for the pump and that by unhooking the battery and reinstalling we wiped the codes, thus allowing it to start. Sound reasonable! Be interested in knowledgeable comments

sounds good but unfortunately its only a incorrect theory . Ecu will not record fault code for fuel pump cause there is no such code. even if it did car would still start as fault codes dont stop the car from going the actual fault is what stops the car. It sounds more like either a intermittent fault or the car was flooded.

Thanks for that. I will have to go with intermittent as we were able to see that the pump wasnt pumping fuel.No fuel came out of the fuel filter with the ignition on or when we turned the motor overso it definitely wasnt gassed up. Intermittent is a worry as it might happen again. Had the car for 3 years and never had this happen and just the day before had taken it on a 60km round trip with no apparent issues. Oh well have to wait and see but might source a second hand pump just in case. Cheers.

Check the fuel pump relay.
