There is a plug at the back of the calliper, 12 or 14mm, can't remember. Take it out, insert allen key and back it off.

cheers, all good now, except for finding problem started by seized handbrake cable, bugger

Before you start digging out the handbrake cable, disconnect both cables at the callipers and check the handbrake actuator mechanisms. They are very common to seize up.
