They were only 20k new when I brought mine here in 09. I think the price is quite different in NZ from what I remember. And they don't have the 2 litre motor.
Its a good car. A little spartan, but well put together. The interior is a nice place to be, quite modern feeling. Ipod / mp3 connectivity, basic interface, heavyish steering and reasonable feel on factory Hankooks. Its no race car and the mitsi engine was never going to impress me, but with an 8 year warranty it was a pretty sound choice over an Astra. I liked the Mazda3 more (silken gearshift in the 6 speed box) but the 6 grand extra on top wasn't enough to sell it over the Hyundai.
The auto wasn't much better or worse than the manual, it would be a coin flip on what you like more.
The only thing I didn't like was HALO, which I had disabled. - the car would lock itself at low speed, which seemed stupid, and a waste of a great acronym.
