Not sure exactly, maybe $500!

All stupid little fines on technicalities. One of them, I had my GPS set with a speed warning for 5km/h over which didn't work because the cop had parked in a brand new speed change area and the sign from the side road was inadequate.

That one was also a silly 80km/h area in what looked like and was previously a 100km/h area, big wide straight, no need for 80km/h.

Not completely sure but its possible I have not ever had one for intentionally speeding.

I have been pulled over and harassed for the Cop's own amusement far more times than I have every been fined. but that's another story all together, and no, nothing to do with my "attitude" or anything like that.

what pisses me off is they are pushing this because of the low toll during the first weekend that they tried it out, forgetting completely that subsequent weekends or holiday periods have had the normal death tolls. It is just a push to get more money in their coffers. They are waiting for some statistics to back them up, whether these stats be a true representation of the effects of a lower tolerance or not, they don't care as long as they get their desired result - more tickets.

It is amazing that they say speed kills but then go and target those who are just over the limit. If the limit is so close to the point where you will die a flaming death then doesn't the problem lie with the speed limit itself! The same for alcohol, It is always people who are blind drunk who go and crash but police are wanting to target more and more of those who have had one beer with dinner then drive home. FFS NZ Police, you say one thing is dangerous then go take the easy pickings, the harmless people who are a whisker on the wrong side of the law.

If they changed the penalties for those who broke the law by a considerable amount then less would be inclined to cruise the country at 140km/h after having a box of beer. It is simple stuff, the same as training an animal I guess, If dog poops on the floor and owner punishes dog then dog wont poop on the floor. Humans are no different, if human drives at 150km/h and gets their licence taken off them for a year or two then human probably wont do it again, especially if the penalties for reoffending are even harsher.

They should also admit that crap driving causes accidents, those who are inattentive and incompetent. Start an advertising campaign to help people realise how crap they probably are, then convince them to attend an advanced driving course and explain to them the benefits of being able to driver properly. That is the next best thing to making advanced driving courses compulsory. Our country is full of monkeys who wouldn't have the faintest idea of how to avoid a crash in an emergency situation. They just stomp on the brake and shut their eyes and I believe that if everyone receives advanced driver training then a lot of accidents will be avoided

Good post Morrisman. Ironicly, the only car we saw stopped yesterday on our 1000km oddissy past us at 120kph plus so deserved everything they got. Everybody else was happy at 100kph plus or minus.
