We have one at the moment and agree with this, ours is at 150k and we had failed coils and leads and a shot battery (which was from new so no big shock there ) and an aircon that seems to need a recharge of gas every year and a half but otherwise no real problems, comfortable enough to drive for what its used for, not overly economical on fuel- previously had toyota camrys (new as were company cars) and had more trouble with them so i guess its luck of the draw sometimes and the perhaps we get a ford dealer to service.

if you're buying a Euro model check when the window wiper motor was last changed. when my vehical was being serviced by Mazda/Ford i was usually given a Euro Mondeo as a loaner. most cars had sad wiper motors from all the indicating gone wrong & one cars wiper motor was dead. the mechanic said he's changed loads of these motors since the huge wiper blades drag heaps across the screen when dry.

clutches are expensive.

the MZR mondeo (2001+) uses a dual mass flywheel and also the clutch actuator is part of the arm also. so when you do a clutch you have to get a clutch/cover plate/actuator and flywheel reset or replaced. if you can get a clutch done for under 1200 PROPERLY then id like to see it.

Well, I'm a qualified Mechanic at a Ford Dealer and can tell you that we have never charged that much for a clutch. Only time it has been up there was when we had to Replace the flywheel with a new one which cost a lot as was under warranty.

Clutch Kit including thrust bearing/actuator is around $250-300, plus a quick machine of the flywheel if its been a bit hot, add 6 hrs labour, around $8-900. With customer cars, we just refit a solid normal flywheel instead to keep costs down IF the Dual mass is unmachinable/unusable . I've only seen a couple since the car came out.

i was quoted by TWO dealers as follows.
clutch kit$525.flywheel $1250. thrustbearing/actuator 300 ish and labour of about 6 hours.

That's a rip.

Exedy do a full aftermarket kit including the thurstbearing/actuator for a lot less then that, flywheels very rarely need doing. Most of the time you can just machine the flywheel and re-grease the springs/dampers if required.

i ended up having it done at a transmission specialist for about 1500 from memory. the exedy parts were unobtanum at the time.
