How long would it take to remove and replace a 3 Littre Windom motor in a 93 Windom! Its a 3ve -fe!
Ta

andy61, Mar 24, 2:34am
Are you sure its a 3VE-FE! more likely 3VZ-FE.

mugenb20b, Mar 24, 5:33am
No idea, but why bother! Those early V6 engines are dogs.

pollymay, Mar 24, 5:48am
I like the 3vzfe, hate the 3vze

Anyway they are pretty easy, if you have a donor car the whole engine and gearbox is on a frame with 4 or 6 big bolts holding it. undo all the hoses/wires, the suspension and the steering column from the rack which is also on the frame. Then you just drop the whole lot.

panicky, Mar 24, 6:46am
Make sure the replacement engine came out of a WIndom as there are a couple of versions of this engine and they mount differently and are not interchangeable as the blocks are physically different

mousely2, Mar 24, 9:10am
Yeah its a 3vzfe So the Camry Engine with the same number would not fit!
Ta

panicky, Mar 24, 9:14am
No, it won't

zephyrheaven, Mar 24, 9:34am
You are kidding
Put the car in the bin
WOFT

pollymay, Mar 24, 9:39am
The camry motor is the same motor, same gearbox code. They are based on the same chassis. They look almost identical when you look underneath.

sw20, Mar 24, 10:35am
Put the 3SGTE in there from the MR2 turbo, much better than the individuals that put the 3VZ in an MR2 from a Camry/Windom LOL

pollymay, Mar 24, 10:45am
I don't like the 3sgte, most are beat to hell. Then they blow up and cost a bazillion dollars to rebuild properly. I'm sick of reshelling or putting pistons in them. 3vzfe, throw in car, go abuse it. My old windom has well over 200 clicks now with the new owner, still pulls strong.

I'd pick doing the headgaskets on one over another 3s full rebuild. I'd like a 3rd gen but most of them go for too much, so eh.

franc123, Mar 24, 9:54pm
Precisely zeph, its a very old car with a known dodgy engine and with every fuel price rise even less people are interested in front drive V6's than there are now if you had to try and sell it.Nobody even wants them for parts.

mousely2, Mar 24, 10:03pm
They seem to sell well on here!
So my options are, it must be a Motor from a Windom hu, and not from a Camry!
Even though the Numbers are the same, the Block is different!
The one on there now has broken two Conrods and the bottom end is Kaput!

gadgit3, Mar 24, 10:38pm
Engine swap in a Windom 10hrs with a hoist and new cambelt/waterpump.

curlcrown, Mar 25, 5:33am
agree. sell the car to a wrecker or scrap man for $500 and use the time and money you intend to spend on another motor on buying another car. Those windoms are not worth much at the best of times.

pollymay, Mar 25, 6:02am
I sold a tidy one for 2k, that's better than $500. Bunch of automotive snobs ;)

The 3vzfe from a camry should fit no issues. They are basically the same platform. The frame might be slightly different but the engine itself is the same Gearbox codes are the same even.

curlcrown, Mar 25, 8:46pm
What I meant was to sell it for $500 with a knackered engine and put that money togheter with what ever was going to be spent on changing the engine and buy a better car.

pollymay, Mar 26, 3:28am
Last engine I had to buy for one cost me $120. If you're doing it yourself it's not a huge deal just to fix it. Add a day's worth of work and even if it only goes for $1200 that's enough to justify just slamming the work out in a day to get rid of it.

mousely2, Mar 26, 7:47am
Where did someone get the impression that the Camry Motor wont fit!
Are they not identical! If they are 3vzfes!
Ta in advance and does anyone know a good place to buy an engine, like who specialises in Toyota,s

pollymay, Mar 26, 7:58am
pick a part. I pull the oil pan off them to check for metal, sometimes even plastigauge the clearances. Then I either take the shortblock or the motor depending on what it is. With the 3vz the shortblock is $90 or something plus get a head kit from segidins. Assuming you have good heads off the old motor and they survived the lunching. Or buy a crashed car for peanuts and swap things over, get your money back for the shell + your busted bits as scrap and sell the good car to get rid of it. Whatever floats your boat really.

Are you doing the work yourself! Cause if you are paying someone I'd agree to ditch the car cause it won't stack up once you factor that in

mousely2, Mar 26, 10:49pm
Dont seem to be any Listed on Pic a Parts website.
If you raise the Frame and Drop the Donk.Do you need any special lifting gear like a Four Pole Frame or can it be done just as well with a Tower and Block and Tackle ect ect!
Thanks all for the Incredable Tips too.):)

pollymay, Mar 27, 12:19am
I've just lifted them block and tackle before. Pick a part you pull your own motor so you go in and find it, the website is very poor for listing what they actually have.

I pulled one V6 in 4 hours including stripdown using basic basic tools. The assembly drops out the bottom of the car and is reverse for installing, hoisted into place. They don't fit out the top, I did try on one car once, not happening.

mousely2, Mar 27, 8:22am
What is the Equipment called that raises the whole car up and has four posts!
Or can you use and Engine Hoist like the ones Hirepool have!
Ta in advance

pollymay, Mar 29, 4:46am
car hoist. Chain and block on a big tree branch will do. I've done it with 2 jacks and a piece of rope. Will take more than a day like that though if it's your first time

mousely2, Apr 3, 10:36pm
Question two who is the best wrecker to buy a used Motor from!
