I have heard of after market "performance chips" available for these and similar engines. Are they good value and can anyone recommend one for the 2.3L 130 Multijet Fiat !.

well you got to be carfull. the chip raises torque by loads , i recall a guy with a multipla told me his cluch now slips due to chip- tuning the torque exeeds what the clutch can handle after. for a example. Personally i would tune it for economy

I would be very careful uping the performance of one of these. The gearbox is a known weak link and borderline for them standard. I have rebuilt several in the past.

+1 you are on the money, exactly what I would have said. Fiat tune it the way it is for a reason. The thing is that van should not be slow as it is.

You want a fast van don't bother about chipping it, go to its big brother the iveco daily 170hp 6 spds now those things haul arse.
