Its done with a tool that plugs into an adaptor in the engine bay. You can take it to a shop with the tool and pay between 15-80 bucks depending where you go or you can google instructions to make your own out of a paperclip and have a go yourself.

I once got a service tool off ebay that consisted of a metal probe to go in pin 7 and a bull dog clip that was meant to clip to the frame of the car to make a ground connection. Except the stupid thing never worked. I just used a paper clip to connect pin 7 to pin 19 (ground) like what is described here: http://www.bmwe36blog.com/2007/02/24/reset-bmw-e36-oil-service-light/

There's a number of BMW Service Service Light Reset Tools for sale on here actually if you want to go that route. Cheap enough too. Example - Listing #: 478363397or478263865 , the list goes on.
