Legal size of number plates?

Who can tell me where to find this out - have been googling unsuccessfully.

Take out your tape measure, as you have to use the issued plates and are not allowed to modify them.

The size is specified by gazette notice.and they're a right royal pain to try and search.

As above, measure one. What makes you think the official ones will not have been made to the regulated size!

Thanks for that, but actually need to the legal source or definitions.Have found something on wikipedia, but actually need it for motorcycles. You would think this would be available on NZTA site, but no.

I guess there's no real reason for them to site it, as they issue them. If people could make their own then yeah they would.

As above the size is gazetted. As per:

http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1986/0006/latest/DLM91481.html!search=ad_act%40regulation_registration+plate_____25_ac%40bn%40rc%40dn%40apub%40aloc%40apri%40apro%40aimp%40bgov%40bloc%40bpri%40bmem%40rpub%40rimp_ac%40rc%40acur%40anif%40bcur%40rinf%40rnif_h_aw&p=1

So I'd contact NZTA and ask them for a copy of that notice.

Why would the size be made public if no one else is allowed to make them!

countrypete, Jun 11, 9:48pm
Because it's law.

Standard plates are 360mmx125mm

Euro plates are 520mmx113mm and Country plates are 440x113.

There are other dimensions too (motorcycle plates, message plates, supplementary plates etc).
