I have been looking for an apprentice for a while, but the young people that have been to me havent been that keen or knowledgeable. I have tried to get hold of Unitech to ask them what they are teaching these kids, but they won't return my calls. Bloody slack when you consider that my workshop is less than a k away from Unitech! The last one I had through told me that they hadnt been taught how to do basic servicing, didnt know what a spark plug was, or how to fit it.

Times have changed! It took me just over 6 months to do my Sparky Trade after doing my Apprenticeship + A-Tech - a lot of the units were already completed, I only had the advanced Level 5 stuff left as I earlier said.

A lot of the basic Diesel standards are all covered in the engineer qual as well and probably a good 6 months worth of your qual is done - you say you only have around 2 1/2 years worth to do - expected time is around 4-5 years now to do a diesel apprenticeship.

I bet you he knew how to tie his shoelaces and answer the phone though and possably brush his teeth twice a day. That seems to be all some of these outfits teach. Looked over a car painters papers a while back and it had F all to with paint, cars or sandpaper. He learnt more off me and others than the apprenticeship
