Tyre psi

What psi should car tyres be at! When I used to have a Legacy I was told 32psi which worked. My current car is at 35psi and still seems flatish. I don't want to blow them up and when I had to put on my space saver today it said it had to be pumped up to 60psi. That seems alot to me having had my tyres to only 35psi. So what's the recommended psi for your average car!
BTW my current car is a Legnum.

Space savers need a high PSI because they have to take a lot of weight on their skinny profile. Many people inflate their tyres to 40 or 45 psi.really helps fuel economy and doesn't affect wear at all. My friend with a Nissan Laurel uses similar size tyres to you, always keeps them at 45 psi and they last over 50,000 km.

Have a look inside the drivers door jamb for a sticker with tyre pressure guidelines.

Same tyre size as earlier Falcons, we put 36-38PSI in them.

Older 14" and high profile 15" I'd run 32-36, anything bigger or low profile I'd run at 36-38.

The only tyres I replaced in recent years on a Freelander, were at 79,000km, and they were far from stuffed, so 50,000 doesn't sound a lot to me.I run mid 30s most of the time on all except the road/race car and they run at 25 or 26PSI cold, but would get warmer (thus increasing the actual pressure).
I have never run at over 40PSI on anything and always get good mileage.
