Problem with wrong sized tyres?

mcdaff, Aug 3, 12:18pm
We were in a big tyre shop the other day and the guy clapped eyes on the tyres on the front of our CRV and said that we had been sold the wrong tyres as they were a different size (slightly bigger) than the ones on the back.He said the car would be using more petrol, forced into 4wd all the time and itwouldn??

big no no to put different size tyres on anything 4wd

I would think you'd be okay on a CRV, but I'd still rather have matching tyres all round

So what size is on the front compared to the back!
Correct size is 205/70x15 all round

kazbanz, Aug 3, 8:48pm
what are the two tyresizes concerned!

motorboy2011, Aug 3, 9:54pm
if its 4wd, all MUST be the same size.

yes, you need to match tyres, the front ones will be doing less revolutions per kilometer than the back which will be forcing the viscous coupling in your centre diff to be working 100% of the time. On an AWD this should only be active when one wheel starts to lose traction, so if its working all the time it'll cause premature wear.

unless it's selective 4WD

in which case it may mess mess with the ABS system. Either or, anyone putting different sizes on a 4wd weather is selective or auto 4wd, is a retard.
