Good morning car experts.I have been thinking of buying a Fiat Punto. I've been put off by reportsin europe of highly toxic substances used in their construction. I was told that people driving new Punto's long term have been suffering issues with their eyes, breathing, skin and they get very bad headaches. Is there any way to avoid these issues!.

I recollect this being a VW issue as well a few years back. Vapours given off by the plastic trim materials I think.

This started me thinking. Here are the facts - the only conclusion that could be drawn is that the Koreans are all in the worst group. http://www.aa1car.com/library/healthycar.htm
Most, if not all, of those issues are prevalent in the age group buying Fiat's anyway.

Mrs Jazz here. I am keeping Mr Jazz away from this as I like him not full of rage/fury/other angry words! But I expect you can all see some furious typing later on this evening.

You think right, affects many brands when new. A few months in the sun with window slightly open and all sorted.

Then there is the formaldahide &TDI given off from the foam seat cushionsthis is what gives it that new carsmell . Sniff inside of a new mercas all theirplastics etc are made to be bio degradeable .

So I would be better off with a merc then! Who is the Fiat salesman! It might be the guy I'm dealing with. Isn't formaldahide a powerful poison! What other brands would I be better looking at!

I would get a 18month old one and it will be fine. It's also the same with a new house, all that MDF etc. deadly gases. I specify no mdf in my houses.
You kitchen is properly full of formaldahide

Jazz is probably going to tell you something along the lines of. As long as you don't eat or try smoking the insides of a FIAT then there is nothing to be worried about.
.and he'd be right. What makes it different from other cars.!

Yeah been a few reports in the last few years about how toxic that new car smell is and as for formaldehyde chewing sugar free gum or other sugar free products causes it to form inside your body too
