If that's the case wouldn't the car drop as much as when a 100kg person stood on the towball plus the 50-70mm! I'm over a hundred kg and my ve hardly moves when I stand on the ball. Edit I have fe2 suspension

I have spoken to Blackwells Holden in Chch and numerous tow bar installers and the max tongue download for the VE is 210kg

Perhaps different specification models!

Bollocks. I used to build towbars for a living in chch, and 210 kg's would tear the arse out of your car in no time. Get underneath and have a look at what your towbar is actually bolted to. ie not much.

You bet me to my edit above, yes I have fe2 if you have an sv6, ss, ssv so do you

It's not about max tongue load, that's simply how much it can take before something breaks. It's about how much you want on there.
Think about it - you are wanting to tow your caravan along the road, you are NOT wanting to CARRY your caravan along. You need enough weight on the ball so that everything remains settled through the normal movements caused by driving. You are not trying to carry the front half of the caravan.

I agree that 210 is far too much I would never put that much on it- but I have been assured by various people including engineers that my 80kg is fine

You can't see really on the ve but he should have a sticker on the tongue anyway

Calais V with fe2

It's obviously not, as by your own admission, the back of the car is sagging too much.
evotime,
Aug 25, 10:05am
So how much does the car sag when you stand on the tow ball
monaro17,
Aug 25, 10:06am
I have been assured that the car can structurally handle up to 210kgs BUT MY suspension seems to be a tad soft

How long is a piece of string. Not sure

Give me strength. Ignorant much!
I'll shout it for you. THE WEIGHT AT THE FRONT OF THE CARAVAN IS TOO HEAVY AND UNBALANCES YOUR CAR. FIX IT INSTEAD OF TRYING TO MASK IT

I suggest you grab the bathroom scales and go weigh your drawbar when its at normal height. You may be surprised.
Can you lift the drawbar! You should be able to if its what you obviously think it is. If you cannot lift it then Id suggest that the weight is too much, or you need a steroid injection.

How rude
NZTools,

weigh your drawbar then come back and tell me that.

Thanks for your help

That is based on a total braked mass of 2100kg! If so that would be correct.

Same as mine and same spec as SS, later models, I think 2008, softened up with FE1.5. It is not that soft. esp with 20s. Its written on the build plate on the front LH inner guard.

Air shocks. Pump up when towing.let some of the air out for normal use.
