Any short cuts to fixing the drivers door handle apart from replacement.
It's pulling away from the door in the middle of the handle
Probable cost of replacement front brake rotors as well & are they easy enough to swap over (no sneaky tricks)

Ooops forgot I had a thread earlier in the year.

You could try installing a washer on the inside provided there is some material to bear on.

Average rotor price is $180 / pair + pads

Rotors are cheap, same as the mk3 golf, I need to get a new handle for mine as its doing the same thing, give qualitat a call and see if they can get you a new one

Is yours an 8v or 16v! auto or man!

1800cc /8v /manual

Back on to this job today.
Repaired the back end panels / bumper & bootlid where the stepsons GF (now EX) backed it in to a pole.
On to some of the other crud today.

Tappets are pretty noisy, whats the guff with settings etc.
Blimin fuel line on to the rail is leaking . (mmm, thinking nasty thoughts there)
Been cleaning up all 4 brake rotors/ pads are fine
Not having any usable luck with google for a workshopmanual

the tappets are shimmed on some engines and some are hydraulic does the noise somtimes change or is it the same noisy all the time!

Clatters a lot when cold, gets better with heat.

best to take the rocker cover off and check if there are shimms under the cam will have 2 grooves on the bucket same as the toyota shimmssize wise they are not however just the way it is and if there are non shimms on top of the bucket then its hydraulic. and you could try that promarm8 or what ever its called . or get new buckets they cost like 8 euro each from germany

befor you remove the rocker get some red goop silicone the halfmoons under the rocker need to be gooped in with that stuff again. if your in luck you can see past the cam thru the oil filler on to the shimms. with a torch

There is no manaul for one, although mechanicaly they are indentical to the mk2 and mk3 golf.

They have hydraulic lifters, if they are noisy tip 500ml of atf fluid in it and leave it in for 1000km and then do an oil change

All's well so far.
it's been started up a few times & left somewhere between idling for 5 minutes & giving it a few good varied revs.
Seems to have settled down the tappets.
It was running a bit rough when 1st started but that appears to have had something to do with the loose fuel line /injector rail joint, now that thats tight, it's starting on all 4 cylinders everytime.

now to fix both front door handles .>>> bugger

my mate in europe used to drive fords now he drives a passat like in the picture and he wants nothing else, said ford is to throw in the binn.
well they do drive like on rails like most good euros and ford escort and there like wooble like jappas all over the place.
