How big a job is it to have the rocker cover gasket replaced! Booked in for tomorrow and don't want a huge surprise cost wise.

kazbanz, Aug 19, 3:11am
2x rocker cover gaskets and end seals should be about $400

splinter67, Aug 19, 3:14am

lyng1, Aug 19, 3:15am

lyng1, Aug 19, 3:31am

welcome to car ownership lol.

$400! I thought that was a bit much and then remembered how the engine is set up in such cars!

I replaced my rocker cover gasket a few months back, I think I paid $12 for the gasket and did it myself in 3mins lol

splinter67, Aug 19, 6:41am
Thanks no more dud for me

splinter67, Aug 19, 7:13am
Guess what your mates are wrong

aragorn2003, Aug 19, 7:15am
Was your engine a Toyota 3k lol

skyblue17, Aug 19, 7:16am
Yeah wouldn't surprise me. Theyre mechanics not comp experts.

splinter67, Aug 19, 7:18am
Im not a comp expert either took me a while but got it done now

trdbzr, Aug 19, 7:25am
So I take it you go to your dentist for a diagnosis when your roof is leaking!

gemini_gurl, Aug 19, 7:25am
I paid $450 about a year ago. Genuine subaru parts though, apparently the aftermarket ones won't last

pebbles61, Aug 19, 7:33am
BMC B-series lol

lyng1, Aug 19, 8:10am
Yes, when the mechanic first said it should be done I thought "Not a big deal" being an owner of classic British cars. But then my son said about the way the Subaru engine is positioned, it's a pain in the .

and yes, I will only let them use genuine parts.

incar., Aug 19, 8:16am
yep correct, genuine only, ask them are they using genuine gaskets matched to the chassis number! they vary by only a couple thou in thickness, if not walk, cost if using full genuine gaskets sets sounds right, be aware some mechanics quote for genuine parts then fit afermarket

skyblue17, Aug 19, 8:45am
Dont be a clown. They are on this MB and offered an opinion. I didnt go anywhere
