You're a brainbox daniel_c I'm sure you'll choose wisely.

Thanks Bellky, I'm just nervous as I've always had a family friend to rely on with choosing cars

I'd steer clear of the Lancer, it's got a V6 engine. The Escort looks like a good car, and more modern. Would be worth getting it checked out.

The corrolla will out last theyou will be able to get and you will be able to get half your money back when you buy another one. Please do your research. good luck.

Our 2nd car is a 96 corolla 1.3 and it is boringly reliable, reasonably economic, peppy enough, and just keeps on giving.

Don't get a RAV4 unless you can tolerate very loud road noise.I put road-tread tyres on mine and filled the back with dynamatt and it's still loud.

I'd get rid of mine if it wasn't for floods/snow/earthquake damage.

Most of the time I wish I was driving something else.

Hi Daniel you could say Im Yin yan that is the overflowing posts of Jazzpianoma. Do take in to concideration I sell cars for a living so it is in my best interest to sell cars that wont come back costing me a mint in reapairs and customer good will.
To be honest I don't think much of your three choices.
The beetle because there are issues-and no despite the sellers assurances it is NOT a $100 fix -I know this for a fact.-so on that basis their credibility has gone out the door.
The corolla -for ONCE I agree with Jazz-a lot of money for a very low spec /old technology vehicle. Basicly its mechanically the same car as the 1994 corolla.
The suzuki has potential for you-being it is basicly a toyota spacio

COROLLAjustspend time lookingfor it-they hold their value & go forever,

whoops-got distracted by baby Kaz
I'd suggest something you may like is a Mazda demio 2002-2004
lots of headroom and quite a nippy car to drive.
In a corolla I'd suggest a 2001 or later jap import as this gives you the more modern VVTi engine. Dont be a fraid of a few miles on the clock at they are good for huge milage.
I could spout a heap of other options but I suspect you may get confused.
I do recommend getting a pre purchase inspection carried out given you have little mechanical knowledge.

Good choice Kaz.
The only difficulty is finding a 2002-2004 Demio in the $4-6K price range.
All the best.

Yep daniel. Pretty much exactly what I predicted would happen with regards the new emmission laws HAS happened.
By now dealers should be bringing in cheap 2002 cars that would sell for 6k
I'm tempted to suggest buying a cheapie and hanging fire till next year. By then the 02 stuff will start comeing back in more and more as trade ins as the 04 stuff drops to affordable levels.

Its worth the day trip to Auckland to get a car man.A flight from palmerston to aucks shouldnt cost any more than 150 so 220 max to get there and back.

Offer the guy with the tida 4800 and see if he negotiates it could be a good deal.

Amen.
