Why do Eurpean cars

lugee, Aug 12, 12:59pm
Have their tacho in the format of 'xx x100 r/min'! Most Euro cars I've seen have the tacho labeled 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 etc and then the multiplier as 100. This strikes me as stupid on a gargantuan scale, considering theres no need for double digit resolution when you're going up in 10's anyway.

Why make the tacho look like a speedo and complicate matters, rather than a nice, well thought out 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.

Those crazy Eurpeans!

you,ve never driven a saab then. just had a look at mine and it goes1,2,3,4,5,6,7, when i push sport button it will change gear at 6000 everytime which is red line.

why do the japs label most things in their cars with English text rather than writing in Japanese! Yet they almost always write the cat converter warning text on the sun visor in Japanese

why not label everything Te reo, save a fortune in waitangi tribunal fees, court costs, and winz payments.

This I like!

My bimmers are single digit x 1000.

jason_247, Aug 12, 9:31pm
my bimmers is single digit too.

Why do americna cars tacho only go up to 5000rpm!
rest of world at 9000rpm

sifty, Aug 12, 9:39pm
Haha my old gsxr's tacho only started at 3000.

Bloke who took it for a test ride complained it was broken, knew then he had ridden it like a nana.

Bog-iron conrods can only handle so much

thejazzpianoma, Aug 12, 9:51pm
Because Japanese manufacturers have to keep things in single digits so as not to confuse their target market.

steph1211, Aug 12, 10:53pm
maybe mercs but every bmw ive had is single digit

hawat, Aug 14, 10:00am
Because in Americna they have cars like Mustnags and Cortteves

bill-robinson, Aug 14, 7:17pm
cause the Merkins run out of brains before fingers

I've driven Fiats, Renaults and Alfa Romeo's that have had double digit tachos. Mostly older post-decade old ones so maybe its a thing of the past.

Well that's funny because it would seem like Euro manufacturers are up to their usual ways of overcomplicating matters, just to make the cars as much of a pain in the ass as possible.
