Audi Convertible

I am in the early stages of thinking about selling my car and buying an Audi Convertible. I have looked on Trade Me, and notice there are a few different models, so am a bit confused.
Does the Quattro S Line have more specs!
Thanks in advance for some info!

S line has a few more 'extras' to my knowledge it is mainly the type of alloy wheels and a body kit to 'enhance' the look. If your current car is japanese you may be in for a shock regarding servicing and depreciation costs. They are a fine looking car though. Are you looking at the A4 convertable! Around what year!

Thanks for that info. Iam looking around 2006 and newer.

Yes, the A4 model convertible. I have looked on the Audi website, and think the Quattro might be all wheel drive!

Yep - Quattro is AWD. I'd think most of the NZ New ones sold were Quattro

As well as being 4WD Quattro's often have a higher spec as well.

Also, I would suggest you consider the VW EOS, VW/Audi are the same company and is mechanically the same as an Audi A3. It has a folding hard top as opposed to a soft top and I much prefer its DSG transmission although some A4's do have the DSG too. Both are good cars though.

Depreciation isn't necessarily too crazy. Audi Convertable's usually hold their value well. If you are looking at the new shape but keeping down around 30K as a purchase price, while it will depreciate it shouldn't be too crazy. Say a bit over 2K a year if you kept it for 5 years. Not too bad for a 30K car.

With servicing, the parts are actually really inexpensive as VW/Audi's are immensely popular on a worldwide scale and there are several third party genuine parts importers. However if you just take it in to your local "prestige" place for servicing you may well be ripped off.

Best place to go is usually a good general garage (someone capable not a knuckle dragger) or third party VW specialist.

Fuel economy is very good and maintenance intervals are long which is a help too. Just remember most at that age will be due for a "Big service" which will include timing belts on the smaller engines so allow $2500 to getit properly serviced. Once that is done though you should only need very minor oil/filter type services for the next 5 years.

The 3.2 is chain driven and dosn't need the Big service as such but can be more expensive at higher km's as they are known to need the chains/tensioners replaced around 160K which is very expensive and a bit of a major to do.

Lovely cars though and well worth the effort.

OP - Jazz is very much your man for details of the various VWs and Audis and what to look for.

But on the basics:

A3, A4, A6, and TT are models of Audi.

"Quattro" is the name for Audi's 4WD system that as Jazz says comes on the flasher versions of most models.

"S Line" is a package of badges, spoilers and stripes as an optional extra that makes an ordinary Audi A3 or A4 or A6look a bit like the high performance S3 or S4 or S6.

This is a "hair dresser" car.
