Just wondering if you guys could give me some advice on buying a van (budget $5k) for travelling, camping etc and the odd town trip)
Just need something with a decent track record even for high kms. Any good vans for around $5k! Anything to be particularly mindful of!
Mazda bongo/econovans are pretty good,I had a fantastic run with my petrol bongo (1994 model) and econovan (1987 model) other than oil &filter changes the only other thing I had to do was to replace the radiator hoses.

BTW, its pretty foolish to dismiss google, its as valuable tool to me as my torque wrench and I am proud to say so. I regularly refer to it when undertaking a new mechanical task of significant complexity.
Why spend hours making your own mistakes or trying to figure things out when you an learn from someone else who has gone before you!
Perhaps that's why there are many so called mechanics in this country that just wave their arms around slag off anything new or a little sophisticated!
I can only imagine how difficult it would be to nut some of today's sophisticated systems out without google, autodata etc.

Funny, I get called upon by more than one garage for tricky jobs they are scratching their heads on, or to look after the place when the owner is away.

Must be useless mechanics if they needed someone like you then they obliviously shouldn't be operating, no wonder there are so many crap repair jobs on euro's
