short version-Start with the cost price of the car in Japan add $2000 for freight. Add 15% of the purchase price for gst. add $1000 for compliance and rego. This will give you a rough idea of what its going to cost to get a car legal in NZ with NO allowance for any repairs mechanical or cosmetic.

I've imported some. Buy one already here from a dealer.
