Bloody radiator has popped and trans fluid has run through motor and trans is slipping.Happened about 20 mins from parents place trans started playing up but didnt over heat. Got to olds. Nana'd it there and then transy radiator fluid dropped everywhere. Now is it likely trans is toast or should we clean the lines and replace radiator and give the trans a full service or is it likely to need a replacement trans! I knew I should have put a trans cooler in! Hindsight is great huh

You mean coolant has run through the trans right! Cant see how trans fluid would get into the motor.

x1
which radiator are you talking about that popped

miniclubmangt, Nov 16, 5:12am
Yeah sorry trans fluid is in the radiator. And trans started slipping and its turned out he top radiator hose has a massive split in it. I cracked the top trans line off the radiator and its clean oil so doesnt look like radiator fluid has curculated in the trans!

Its just gone straight out the massive split. So fingers crossed that its just a low trans fluid that made it slip and hasnt caused to much damage'

cheers for that but you may want to look at installing a stronger plumbing for your auto trans fluid as a friend of ours did after two incidents with pipes cracking/bursting in cold weather.

seperate trans cooler is always a good idea, got one on my 'coon (& on most autos Ive owned)

mrs67, Nov 16, 5:59am
very common fault after market type the best replacement

ducatiss, Nov 16, 6:00am
New radiator (you will need that anyway) and get the advice of a trans specialist - you may get away with a flush and fill but I would doubt it. Be prepared for a recon trans.

jason18, Nov 16, 6:05am
Yeah I put one on my au sorry posting on my old man's account. The trans fluid in the top hose that leads into radiator is still bright red. I'm concerned that running fluid low will ruin trans

dent, Nov 16, 6:15am
Im confused is there coolant in the trans fluid! Or is there just trans fluid in the coolant!

jason18, Nov 16, 6:17am
Sorry there is trans fluid in radiator I'm typing off my phone so not making sence I have not been able to check trans as no dipstick. except for driver. But what I did check was the top trans line that goes into radiator and that is bright red oil

dent, Nov 16, 6:34am
ok so as long as trans didnt get coolant in it you should be ok.

jason18, Nov 16, 6:37am
Ok cool fingers crossed. What do I use to wash the oil out of engine where it has run with coolant

dent, Nov 16, 6:38am
You need to replace the radiator and put a deoiler product in the cooling system.

andremove the trans sump soonest and then clean reassemble and flush with trans fluid then remove sump again and fit new filter . .i would also get a aftermarket trans cooler mounted not useing the main radiator for that no more.

intrade, Nov 16, 7:03am
you flush it with filter off to try and get moisture out before it causes corrosion.
Automatic trans rebuild places sell filter and sump gaskets . i just got em for 29 bux for my corolla 3 speed automatic.

i would not worry about the engine at this stage the trans is the most important to save .
I would get a aftermarket cooler flush the trans without filter and go for a drive with it all clean to see if you managed to save the trans befor pulling it apart again to fit new sump gasket and filter . you can bypass the radiator once its flushed thru with just a copper pipe for a quick testdrive.

this is how i do auto trans services on slushboxes.
i will see in the next video how he flushes it.
I just remove the return and pump it thru in to a bucket once i fill the sump with the engine . and thats how you got to flush your trans to try and save it but withouttransmission filter attached as you only need the new filter once you managed to save the trans.

intrade, Nov 16, 7:31am
secound video is wrong after filling you disconnect the hose from the return to the trans and poke it in a container and start it up , you also usually have to fill thru dipstick on most trans . and once the return fluid comes out nice red you got it flushed . otherwise you pump back the dirty crap that is still in the torque convertor and coolerback to the transmission conterminating the nice new fluids.
You have to propper flush it another liter once it turns red on your trans.

I would also ring automatic trans rebuild place if they got special other trick to get water out . that i myght not know off like special additive to run to bind water to oil who knows.

jason18, Nov 16, 7:45am
Oh k cheers guys, Im not with the car until monday when the mechanic will look at it. Im pretty sure no coolant got into the trans by the look of the trans lines but I guess I wont know until its apart. Will let you guys know result

intrade, Nov 16, 7:50am
if it slipped then i would say water got in the trans and it will be coroded by monday inside the transmission . why else would it slip!

jason18, Nov 16, 8:07am
I was thinking it was slipping due to no fluid in trans. Massive crack in water pipe was pissing coolant and transfluid onto road. So it was loosing all its trans fluid and slipping. Im think the radiator hose split due to being under a huge amount of pressure from trans oil

intrade, Nov 16, 8:24am
lets hope that is the case and your bands are not cooked . then

jason18, Nov 16, 8:39am
Yeah hoping.

jason18, Nov 20, 1:34am
No water through trans, Just low on fluid but still fluid in there. Will fit radiator and refill trans on weekend.
