Yes I probably am easily pleased, but I have driven many late model cars and the Tiida compares well with any of them.

08 shape is a bit 'meh' and the 1.4DT may be a bit under powered. Take it for a drive and see if you like it. My feeling is even though it may be an '08 car, it will feel like you are in a five year older car. Also $7000 today, $5000 next year. $3000 the year after.

Have you looked at Fiesta's! Particularly the manual ones, they are quite nippy around town power wise.

Otherwise the Mazda 3 is a good option if you can get one in your price range. Would recommend a Focus/Mondeo but the Mazda versions have such a nicer trim & interior package and look nicer then the focus's too.
