Toyota 1996 HiLux Surf, 3000 litre, diesel, SSR-G.

1) At what km does the cambelt get done - it already was done once at about 100,000 km (from what I can tell) and it is at 175,000 km now.
2) How often do these have an oil change and filter changed - my older 1989 Surf needed to be done every 5,000 km.
3) It has a little annoying habit of locking the doors when you start it up, can this be re-programmed so it won't happen!
Thanks a lot for any help or advice - cheers.

150,000km for T/belt, 10,000km for oil/filter 15w40 diesel oil .don't use crap oil in it.

WRONG!

1) 100,000km
2)10,000km
3)Yes, see your Toyota Dealer.

Jeez the front springs must be enormous to carry a 3000 litre diesel motor!

DIDN'T realise this was a competition .1 KZTE 3 litreas in SURF are basically the same engine as in later hilux ,later hilux recommend t/belt at 150KM.whether its 100km or 150km its not a majic number where the engine will selfdestruct if you don't do it.

Imports like the Surf are replaced at 100,00km, NZ Models are replaced every 150,000km.

bjmh, Dec 12, 2:28am
why ! surely the belts are the same once they've been replaced once

lk104, Dec 12, 2:34am
Because that is what is recommened by the manufacturer.
And no, its not a competition, its about giving the correct advice.

Just to throw a spanner in the works.distance travelled is not the only consideration. Time between changes, in regards to belt and oil etc is also an important factor.
From memory, oil/filter 10,000km or 6 months, belt @ 100,000km or 10 years. whichever comes first.
Like I said, from memory, but close enough:)

Toyota didn't change the part number for the belt when they increased the service life to 150k

1) 150 000kms or when the T belt light illuminates on the dash. They only take 15 minutes to replace anyway.
2) I'd be dropping the oil every 5000kms and do the filter every 10 000. Fuel filter once a year.
3) No idea.

Have a serious think about getting the radiator professionally cleaned now before it causes serious damage to the cylinder head.

No need to worry about the timing belt, the head usually cracks before belt interval is due.
