Toyota Hilux Surf Overheating

have a 94 surf, KNZ130 with the 1kzte 3.0 T/Diesel. Today it started to overheat going up hill, its fine on the flat (drove 60kms home on flat without any overheating). Im hoping its not the head. Im thinking radiator block as they can if neglected (I havent had it long) So thinking a new radiator (or getting mine recond) and replacing therostat and new coolant etc should fix. Thoughts!

Its likely your radiator is choked up. It will need to be removed, disassembled and cleaned out by a professional.

It is also highly likely your viscous fan hub is failing. These are adjustable if.you dis assemble them.Over time the bi metallic spring that controks the amount of fan lock up.

If you can't hear your fan roaring with the windows up then its not working properly.

i just re read my post, it makes no sense.

over time the bi metal spring loses effectiveness, this can be adjusted out.without adjustment most surf's fans never operate fully

How exactly do you adjust them! Can they be tightened up!

Auto! Do the trans cooler pipes run into the bottom rad tank! The pipes block a lot of the rad outlet, so fit an aftermarket trans cooler and remove the pipes from inside the bottom tank while you're getting the rad serviced.

adjustable if you take the clutch apart, there is adjustment slots in there.

what you are adjusting is at what point of the bi metallic spring's internal rotation the fan kicks in.as time goes on the spring moves less. simple solution is adjust it so that the fan comes on sooner.

ideally a brand new part would be fitted, but apparently these are often adjusted too hot anyway so would also need adjustment / checking.
