Decided it's not worth a response.

Agree with Kaz 1 milion percent .As for drunk drivers lock themup for ever.As thered is a huge cost to the Taxpayer in doing that then the simple solution is "Shoot them".If that happened there would be no repeat offenders.

That penalty could b e extended to all the other lowlifes - rapists, murderers etc. That's right the doo gooder will complain that wew cant be sure that they diud the crime.Well in the case of a drunk driver bit hard to prove they wern't there and didnt do it.I'm serious shoot the retards.

One could say the blame lies with the people that make alcohol.
Alcohol is the worst drug known to man bar none. The damage it does every day, with out fail surpasses the harm of any other drug in our society!
And yet we punish and lock up drug dealers, yet the breweries are totally unacountable for the misery they spread. That really doesn't really make sense does it!

So should we hold the breweries accounatable!
I dont think thats the answer!
So what is!

We need to really toughen up on where and when its sold! Toughen up acess to it!And toughen up the punishment.

Flogging sounds like a great plan!

"In the relatively moderate Emirates last summer, an Abu Dhabi man was sentenced to 80 lashes and fined more than $7,000 US after he tested positive for alcohol following a traffic accident"

Who cares.

Ranting lunatics.

johnf_456, Dec 24, 2:24pm
Lacking of personal responsibility is the issue, not alcohol

marcos1, Dec 24, 3:39pm
Voted.!

doomy999, Dec 24, 4:39pm
Thats only part of the problem johhny.

As dr.dolittle said, what happens if you are an alcoholic.
Once drunk enough a person becomes insane! Their behaviour is irrational. They dont have the ability to control their actions. Hence the madness and crimes that often ensues from drunks.

How can an alcoholic be responsible for their actions. Legally of course they can be found to be responsible but the reality is they have no control over what they do.Most people aren't alcoholics by choice!

And then there are plenty that only intend on having a couple then driving home. Only to wake up in the morning with a massive hang over not even remembering their drive home. Are they really responsible for their actions. No Im not talking about legally. Of course legally they are responsible but how many of us, your self included have meant tohave one or two only to wake up the next day with a mean hang over not remember what happend!
That is a very common occurence in today's society!

I can go buy alcohol 4.am in the morning from one of our all night super markets.Alcohol the worst know drug to man kind, the one that does by far the most harm in our society and yet we go out of our way to make itreadily available!

In some suburbs there are bars and bottle stores on every corner.
I can drive to my local 24 hour supermarket and buy it 5.am in the morning.
Night clubs stay open in to the wee hours of the morning.
Teens get their hands on it when ever they want it. Acess to it is that easy!

We make this stuff as available as we can to the general public knowing the harm it does and then we cry about the mess it makes later!

How does that make sense to anyone!

We slam drug dealers for spreading misery! Yet when it comes to alcohol our society are their own worst ememies. Ask how many in the general public want a major clamp down on it. Most will say "but I enjoy a quiet beer or two"Even the ones that have lost the plot on it time and time again.

The only real answer is , to really really clamp down on accesability to it.
Maybe we should start licensing people that want to buy alcohol.Repeat offender!, drunk driver! alchoholic! committed an offence while under the influence!
Then no license. Caught supplying some one with no license, immediate ban from being allowed a license to buy alcohol!

Maybe thats the answer. Only those that can prove themselves capable of having one or two drinks then leaving it alone should be allowed access to it!I wonder how many in here that are so upset with the harm the drunks are doing would go for such a proposition if it meant it could stop the harm alcohol is causing!

Nice vote there. ;)

corky, Dec 24, 4:47pm
Bellky, you really should chop down that lemon tree in your back yard and plant a sweet orange. Might cure your sour outlook.

bellky, Dec 24, 4:50pm
No, we need the lemons for the Gin drinkers here, however I drink mine with just a little tonic as anything else spoils the flavour. :) good luck to you corky.

kazbanz, Dec 25, 3:58pm
This is a reflection of our society as a whole. The regulardrunk driver that is able to think its ok ,the court system that doesn't have a stiff enough penalty to discourage the people who were thinking -maybee this time I'll "risk it"

supernova2, Dec 25, 4:08pm
I'm with you all the way on this Kaz.These days if you damage a letter box you are likely to get a bigger penalty than killing someone driving drunk. It's time that the Judges woke up and started to impose m,aximum penalty and stop all this "credit" for pleading guilty etc.The victim can't get a "credit' for anything.I still think the drunk driver should be shot - problem solved for ever. And don't get me started on "work licence" - what an absolute joke.

Compulsory insurance would help too maybe. At present if you have a DIC conviction you cant get vehicle insurance but you can still drive. So once again the victim (when you haved another crash) gets shafted. So it follows with compulsory insurance you wouldn't be able to drive evera again.More than one way to stop these aholes.

dr.doolittle, Dec 25, 4:13pm
Eureka!
I know how to stop them driving again.
Handcuff their R wrist to their L ankle for one month.
That should help stop them driving at least.
It's simple, cost effective & you'll be able to spot the 'drunk drivers' at the supermarket.

marcos1, Dec 25, 4:27pm
Why thankyou.I have plenty more up my sleeve as well.

joanie32, Dec 25, 4:49pm
After many years driving tow trucks, my single greatest fear is that someone in my family diesin a motor car. Thats why I can beseen as abit OTTwhen it comes to the cars I choose, and things I will and wont allow. I have actually fought ablokerather than let him drive drunk. OP is going throughthe hell I used to see families dealing with way too often. Deal with it however you need to mate and try to channel that anger in a productive way.

maggie.o, Dec 25, 5:16pm
years ago i lost my husband hit by a drunk drivermiss him so much you can drink but dont drivethe kids have grown up they tell every onethis message the driver got 3 years in jail does not bring my husband back grandkids dont know how great he was please drinkers dont drive

bellky, Dec 25, 6:31pm
Go hard, be your own hero, spread them far and wide.

peja, Dec 25, 7:13pm
Doomy is right, and his (her!) solutions make good sense, I would vote in favour of such a proposition

leechie, Dec 25, 8:12pm
Alcohol is the new tobacco.
Its just a matter of time until the public at large forces a shift at the top.
How much money did cigarette companies pour into the pockets of politicians in order to keep selling their poison to the common man!
The same goes for the alcohol industry.
The money goes in and legislation backs the industry. Your wife and kids are a small loss to a Juggernaut like alcohol. Profit minus lives equals profit.
Its just another one of the overheads for them really.
If you want things to change, take on the industry and take on the government, but it will all start when people put down the bottle and sober up.

marcos1, Dec 25, 8:20pm
No need to spread them far and wide .

I like to be specific where they are aimed.

marblicious, Dec 25, 8:45pm
Cars will become uncrashable before that happens.

The problem with the motoring industry is that all of the technology comes from racing. Speed is the main focus and safety runs a distant second.

h2oldragon, Dec 26, 8:57pm
Waste of time thread. Feeling guilty are you!

vtecintegra, Dec 26, 9:05pm
What on earth are you talking about!
