Am thinking of buying a Subaru Outback, any advice

Am looking at around 2004-2006, $12,000-$16,000, under 100,000kms on the clock.

Will be doing some minor off-road driving, e.g. paddocks, snow on roads, dirt roads, etc.

Any issues! Was thinking of a Subary Legacy but Outback is a bit higher off the ground.

I am not mechanical, will be keeping it serviced. all I want is a 4wd decent length stationwagon that doesn't break down and will last a while without needing much spending on it.

thanks.

Got an 04 Legacy - really like it.

much like everything, get as much of a service history as you can and keep it serviced. Non-turbos are less likely to have been raped.

Generally very reliable vehicles. Between 2004 and 2006 no Outbacks had turbos, not in NZ anyway.

I have a 2000 Outback done 280000kms,Father in law has 2004.
Both are the H6 3L motor. No problems with them at all.
Keep it serviced and they are a great car , ok on fuel, great tow car.

I'd go for an H6 as well.
Don't stop at just paddocks, they can handle more than that.
Subaru AWD is the best on the market. I saw a doco once where they tested different makes on a ramp with rollers, and the Subaru got the furtherest.
Always makes me cringe when I see that add on TV where a Subaru is being towed up a track with a tractor. Subaru should kick that Fraser guy up the arse, coz there's no way that car needs towing up there.
