Who said they were slow! I think the consensus is that they're a tad monotonous in the same way F1 is while having an inflated opinion of their attraction.

+1 well said sir

It makes you wonder though. Why watch the same cars in a uniform line go around the track when you can watch atleast some different cars that are closer to a street car give a meaningful performance relative to the manufacturers design.

I would have agreed with you on the F1 in the past, but this last year was amazing, never seen a more exciting season. Might even start looking at the V8s again now that there are some variation in manufacturers.

The factory race cars are the ones the punt round Le Mans, these are modified production cars.

Whats interesting when you look down the list, is the the mighty nissan skyline, the worlds greatest car,(or so some on here claim) is 2 seconds a lap slower than a poxy old Holden VY taxi.LOL

They are the ones they use at Le Mans (hence the LM in their name), the faster ones are custom sports cars (like F1 cars with bodies). I do not think V8s are slow, it pisses me off when people call them dinosaurs, they are fast (esp for the money)

Of course the driver has no influence over that eh! A real shame there's no coverage.

I'm sure you're right, so we can expect a V8 Supercar entry in Le mans next year!
clark20,

yeah that would be a laugh to watch. With "real" LM race teams they are probably a lot faster.(dialled in etc)

Yep , This whole supercars thing is bollocks to me, bring back group A or at least some type of cars that have relevance to road cars (and with their actual brand components). Even if they do weigh them down / limit speed / whatever , at least you get some differences in the looks / size / handling character of the cars . Otherwise it is just like nascar / F1 , but slower. What's the point .

Monotonous!
For the last few years V8 Supercars has been one of the most exciting race series anywhere in the world.

Peter Brock drove at Le Mans a couple of times but he drove a Porsche and a BMW. BUT I seem to recall that a Commodore actually competed at Le Mans once but didn't do any good. Can anyone else remember the details!

Baird at the October 2012 Bathurst meeting did a 2.09.4 for the Carrera record.
The faster ones are not custom sports cars. the GTs racing at Bathurst this weekend are largely GT3-spec, which are still very heavily road based and based on homologated road cars, they're not a tube-frame silhouette racer like the V8 supercars are.
Quite impressive that road-based cars are only 2-3 seconds a lap slower than dedicated race cars that have years of legacy data at that circuit.
clark20,

No, the other way around. Quite impressive for a in-expensive and regulated (heavy, low HP for weight, small tyres) to be 2-3 s faster than factory race cars (and supercars) worth millions
Edit "The faster ones" I was referring to the all out LeMans racers, the single seaters (with a spare seat LOL)

Brock's and Perkin's drive across Europe in a Kombi van was for Silverston before Le Mans.
Call it what you like, I still get more excited watching old footage of group A racing than their franchise.

after contemplating the posts, I think 'Hardly Quick' is more applicable.
