I own a 1993 Astina and have been told that the gear lever mount is broken and needs replaced, which causes the gear lever to sometimes drop down, resulting in it being hard to change gear, unless you force it back up again, to get normal operation again.
Would it be simple to do, or would be a job for a mechanic, I gather its a rather cheap fix as is rather easy to get to, he found the problem in no time

Hard to say how easy it is to fix without seeing it. Could be a simple re-spotting of the welds/ crack or a major realignment of the whole assemble & not being worth doing without a total replacement
