Cambelt - Subaru forester?

jijimee, Mar 28, 1:20am
Hi there, our 1998 Subaru Forester needs a cambelt change and I was under the impression they cost around $400 . But I just phoned up to book in, and got quoted either $800 or $1200 depending what type it is! This price includes the tensioner pulleys and water pump etc. Is this price right or should I ask somewhere else! Thanks a lot for your advice :)

Tell the boys here what type it is as well, that will I guess be which motor is it.

Shop around for cheaper places.always helps. But give what kind of engine it is to get an exact price and it's best to change the waterpump and other bits as well.

Ummmm! The guy who quoted me just said it could be a turbo one which is more expensive, but I wouldn't know how to tell. It's a very recent purchase.

Price sounds about right.

Whats the rest of the model info! Subaru Forester .
Does it have a bonnet scoop!

Oh dear I'm sorry I'm way ignorant. We haven't actually made the money-for-car exchange yet so I can't tell you. Maybe hubby will know more, I'll ask him when he gets home.

Get the pulleys and tensioner and water pump done at the same time as easier while everything else is off, worth it in the long run. Ours was a quad motor which turned out to be more expensive. Turbo's are more pricey. We got cambelt, tensioners, waterpump pulleys and power steering belts done at a specialist Suby place and that came to just under $900. We drove a hour to get the car there as local was going to be no change from $1750!.def shop around

True, thank you! Yeah I dunno of tots quad cam or what, but will certainly ring around.

Haha I see.

Well so far a Subaru specialist place is the cheapest, quoting max of $1000 even for quad cam. I shall keep researching :)

Pricing will get cheaper with lower quality products.
Make sure you are getting OE or Gates quality parts fitted.
It's a big job that you don't want to repeat for another 100,000 km.
