Funny you should say that.
I read an article about a guy who bought a new car and was issued with GAY069 which he didn't like.The issuing authority says they can only ban combinations which are likely to cause widespread offense; if they were to ban "GAY" then the banning itself would cause offense to the gay community because it implies that to be gay or use the word "gay" is offensive.So they had to leave it in and risk offending non-gay people.Go figure.

I've got MG215. It was from the time when anybody who had an MG (mine's on my '67 MGBGT) and wanted a semi personalised plate could order and wait for what the wanted with the prefix MG to come up. There are some in the MG car club like MG 67 or whatever.

ACTUALLY--that was the official line for about one whole week. THEN they backpedaled super fast and recalled the GAY plates. They sent out a memo to all the testing stations saying that in this specific case should the customersrefuse thegay plates they can refuse them.Replacement plates were sent out to the testing stations. I'll check my recorrds but mr 069 I think was my customer and he changed the rego a week after getting the plates. I might be wrong re the exact number but the guy concerned was a rugby lock and he was NOT a happy camper when he saw the plates
