I charge Au $75 incl. Working from my workshop at home, and i am as cheap as it gets over here. It would feel rude charging any more, as i have next to no overheads

We try and avoid a hourly rate charge, preferring to quote for jobs without going down that path. (Actually, we simply don't give one). The reason is, we have invested heavily in technology, we have great tools and test jigs, and have had test software written. So we are much much faster than the guy with a test lamp and pie in his beard. He will take twice as long to do the job or more. But we want to make a return on the investment we have made in plant and equipment, so we have to charge 3x what he does on an hourly basis.

I think hourly rates distort the market. They efficient guy with great tools will do the job faster and thus get paid less. IMHO the answer is charge a book rate for jobs, regardless of the actual time you take.

They wouldn't be in the street if ya didn't have grass growing down the middle.
I think that cammey guy must have passed your way.

Hope the pie tasted good.

Dealership I work at charges $108incl GST /hr.
Lease companies only get 10% discount on parts and labour.

That's fine if you are doing only a few different sorts of jobs quite often. Beyond servicing and one or two other regular maintenance jobs, we will seldom do the same thing twice. There's no other way for us to charge that out.

jeez lookoutas we got it all wrong. When we invested heavily years ago organizing our respective business's . we should have been charging 3 times as much, local pies are shite and I never could grow a decent beard. got a test light though.

vtecnet, Oct 12, 4:02am
$69 + GST is cheap Zeph, my mechanic also charges that rate, but yeah people still complain, but don't mind their IT Tech charging them $120 + gst an hour (sigh). to do basic things to their Computer which anyone can do by searching on google :)

We got the MTA data which showed we were below average at $70 plus. Although I do believe this gets distorted by by the dealers charging over $100. We put ours up to $75 plus and not one person said anything. We now charge random one off $80 plus and trade and regular customers $75 plus. All our supplier prices have gone up as well as technician wages so we had to too.
