All good recommendations here, I live on the Shore and know of or have used all of these guys.
A little more info on the type of the work you need done would enable us to give you the best advice.

If you wajnt a race engine and can afford it, Randell Edgell developements. Used to be in Wairau Rd,not sure if still there.

Murray "Sir Reginald Whitworth Socket", Weber Specs, is now at Silverdale, Anvil Rd.

What make of engine? Surely that makes a difference? Best advice is to make sure that whoever you use, understands your type of engine.

Although the basics may be similar, I have had a couple of instances where simple mistakes were made, because the builder wasn't aware of specifics. The first resulted in zero oil pressure 2 minutes after start up after a full rebuild, (didn't fit the manufacturer's flat "O" ring, but used a rounded one out of the box), followed 5 minutes later by a frost plug failure (didn't fit the manufacturer's own, but tried to modify an off the shelf item.
Failures continued for some time afterwards costing me race failures and towing bills.

If you do find someone, get a confirmed completion date and also a quote - no excuses.

Too many so called specialists take in work will-nilly, and have a very poor attitude to planning and costing. Sadly, most have a very mixed reputation and the only one named above who I have never heard anyone complain about is indeed Bruce Manon.

Mr Head has moved to the Waikato and is so busy with his new venture, he can't find time to dust of the gear he kept from the shop. Still seen at HD sometimes though.

That narrows the field down a wee bit!

use Eric at West Auckland Engine Reconditioners

vivac, Apr 6, 8:34am
No, my car had to go back six times.
Only once was a minor thing, three times was to re-strip and reassemble the motor, once was for driveshaft hanger bolts being left loose and falling out and the last was when the motor shat out the new bearings.
Took months and months to get the car back the last few times.

I rage sold that car because of this.

moparpete, Apr 6, 1:43pm
Yea Eric is good, but can be pricey. Did the short block on my engine. If you talking RB/B 383,440 or Hemi, I would be contacting either C&M Performance or Tony Marsh from Marsh Motorsport.

Go with an experts view! The fact that they may not be on the Shore I don't think makes a huge difference. If you have to heave the lump out to deliver it or trailer the car, reckon it is better to travel a few k's and get a better job done.

Bruce does Veen Smiths group A Commode engine, good and strong
