I think you might find its a Halidig made by Halidays in Morningside in Auckland back in the 80's/90's, they are now in Maungataroto now making auger gear I think, they also produced a tracked version which was way ahead of its time, thinking that most of the others copied it and that's what's available now in the world.
The arms don't look right for a early Gehl, I think you will find its a Haliday machine.

Halitrax International seems to be listed at Mangawhai.

Did Jolly Wide Wheels make the rims in the pic above?

A Halitrax was the tracked version, they were a high Drive type system with the drive sprocket mounted high like in a Cat bulldozer. From memory the Halidig was the wheeled version.

Thanks MrCat, I must have looked at thousands of images trying to figure it out. Awesome!

Gave the company a call, talked to the boss who started making gear in 1969 and hasnt stopped yet. Great guy to talk to!
Apparently Halidays started making them in the 70's and they were powered by sd22 nissan diesels and weighing in at about 2000kg. Mostly made with off the shelf spares to make maintenance easier and cheaper. There were 3 versions.

Halidays bet a grand for years that there machine could out dig anyone elses, nobody including Bobcat or Mustang were ever keen to take it up!
