what is the best diff ratio to put in mk2 escort van

seadubya, Nov 24, 5:40pm
Do you want acceleration or top speed or carry heavy loads etc etc
What engine, power does it have?
What size wheels and tyres on it?

If it's a 1600 a 3.9 is good. That's what I had in my old Anglia van with a 1600 GT motor.

I used a auto corsair diff head . think it was about 3.5 . they will be rocking horse sh.t now though.

I'd be looking at putting my money into a 5 speed conversion first.

I ran an Escort van with 2litre engine and box and 3.5 diff. was brilliant, did over 200,000 km in it. was fast and economical!

I know this has nothing to do with post #1 but it looks like they aren't coming back to answer questions. I had a 100e prefect with a Mk3 Zephyr motor & box in it running a 3.5 to 1 diff and drove up to the summit of 1 Tree hill on 4th gear. Sensible to slow speed as a torque test, not a mad dash to get there.
