Rubber/boot for pedal linkage thru firewall ?

craigsmith, Dec 3, 5:30am
The rubber lining, or boot, or whatever it was, around the brake pedal linkage, has disappeared on my car.

It came away in clumps of horribly sticky gooey black crap that made a real mess. You can see below the remainder I haven't cleaned up yet.

Here are pictures. Wide view and close-up, yes you can see daylight through the hole (bonnet is up) :)

I need to fix this as the hole is obviously a problem, not least because engine noise in the cabin is now triple what it was.

Does anyone have any ideas what sort of material could be used and where to get it from? I imagine cutting and gluing in a replacement.

It needs to be something noise insulating, heat insulating, and fireproof. One issue is the brake linkage moves obviously, so the new material has to form a flexible boot which will endure lots of repeated movement.

My first thought was-why reinvent the wheel? Ie just buy the factory part.
Second thought was a CV boot or power steering boot would do the jiob

My apologies in advance if my mind reading is off-base, it's too hot here.

If the correct one wasn't available for my vehicle, I'd probably look for a rubber gear-shift boot.

if your adapting I would use a steering rack boot and some of that noise suppressor material that they use on floors
