my mate just pick up vr commy 220kms ! wants to give it oil change in has turned up with a pack Valvoline 10/40 bit thin ? best use 15/40 ?

I'd use 15/40 and I'd put in some polymer booster as well, like STP, Wynns etc.

10w-40 is what I'd use but 15w-40 is fine.

All oils are pretty thick when cold, so no harm in going ot a thinner cold rating. I try run a 5w40 when its available.
