Auto choke on 96 Corolla. Faulty I think.

Do they fail? Are they fixable or is it easier to replace it?

Engine keeps stopping when cold but runs fine when hot.

Wouldn't have thought it would have a choke. Aren't they injected? Could be in the ecu?

Clean out the throttle body, there's many videos on you tube on how that's done.

Failing that, I'd say you might have fuel pressure issues.

The 4afe motor is injected and they do have problems with the idle control valve. Take the throttle body off and remove the idle control valve and clean out the galleries in the throttle body then reassemble and check the throttle cable setting so it get full throttle (by adjusting the nuts on the cable). The two screws that hold the idle control vale on have special 5 point torx heads.
