Car engine oil in mower. Ok?

trogedon, Jun 19, 5:35am
My mower was down on oil so I poured some car engine oil in it. Is that ok?
I didn't think it would hurt and better to have it topped up than running low.

mower will run on any oils just dont mix sysntetic with mineral oils if you can help it like special dpf diesel synthetic engine oils but even that would be better then to run it dry

Just don't put Harley Davidson oil in it.

I just put whatever I happen to have laying around into my old Briggs . usually what's leftover from car oil changes. As you say, better than nothing.

Years ago, I bought a new mower that needed oil right from new.
I happened to have enough aircraft oil for the job - as in, oil for a Fletcher topdressing plane.
That mower rusted - got patched, and finally fell to bits around the engine, which was still going as good as it did from day one. The original oil was still in it, and was as clean as the day it went in.

Probably should treat your mower like you do your car, it will last longer.
Do you use brylcreem on your bicycle chain? (o:

lookoutas, Jun 19, 7:41am
Was giving an old high school class mate a ribbing the other day that he must be dying his hair. Then he made it even worse by saying it was the continuous use of Brylcreem!

Haven't used that since the 60's. But wasn't it the in thing.

Briggs & S use B&S special oil, don, t put B&S oil in your Stihl chainsaw, buy it from the Stihl shop and pay twice what you pay at Ripco, same oil in rebadged container lol

fertman, Jun 20, 6:52am
What would you put it on now?

jmma, Jun 20, 6:52am
B&S is any SAE30
Think you may find CS is 2stroke and Stihl oil will be full syn (o:

jmma, Jun 20, 6:53am

If I answered this how you know I'm thinking - I'd get nuked off here.

Polish would be the closest answer.

If it's a european mower, it's critical that you use the factory certified lubricant.
If not the mower may be misunderstood and slated.
The average Kiwi (Knuckle dragging mechanic) has no idea.
Unfortunately these disposable items from europe, if serviced improperly just won't cut it.
Briggs & Stratton any old oil ,mines been going 30 years .

What are these Euro mowers you talk about ? (o:

Just use a SAE 30 engine oil, don't use a multi grade as it can foam and cause problems, but don't use SAE 30 Jimmy oil though.
