Have always done my own servicing ,buying filters from friend with a garage who,s been a mechanic for 40+years .He maintains Ryco are a good product and unlike others who have bought "cheap" filters has never had a problem.Just out of interest i checked on prices.Local agent $24.+ gst /sca $11.99 own brand $13.99 Ryco./Repco $12.94. Local agent said must change sump washer(aluminium) $3.20 each.SCA pkt of 8 $4.29.Seems a ridiculous disparity in prices How much better are the OE ones and where are the made.

horses for courses. i have found Isuzu filters never leak. some aftermarket leak on Isuzu.I use Ryco mainly with a smattering of genuine. i.e if vehicle is still young enough for warranty. When I first started my workshop ,genuine parts were prohibitive. now with all the competition ,they are getting a lot better. but not always. heres a filter that fits a lot of Toyotas. genuine $23. ryco $15.49. AC Delco $8.19.

I use Ryco having found a cheap repco BMW filter to not have an important feature. Compared Ryco one with BMW and looked same. Some makes you can get OE PART with different name from specialists who buy from people who actually make filters, same part as OE.
Otherwise Ryco seems good safe compromise.

I have had a couple of Ryco filters fail and Ryco don't want to know. For Euro cars they usually cost more than the OE filter.

Its critical with these late model engines that have oil pressure and flow sensitive features like variable valve timing and of course hydraulic lifters, that the filter has similar characteristics to OEM spec, as does the oil itself. I will use aftermarket on older cars but not new ones, its not worth the hassle if they're not up to the task.
