Footrest rubber a warrant issue?

greateft, Jan 17, 10:19am
Hey, a while back my motorcycle lost the rubber off the left hand footrest, it's now just got the metal rod to rest your left heel on. Works perfectly well, rode around for 4hrs today - but I'm about to go for my restricted and the last thing I need is to be auto-failed on a warrant issue. Is this going to be an issue? Cheers

Find a bit of rubber tubing or hose and use that , make it look like it's meant to be that way .

Probably is a wof fail because footrests are part of a motorbikes control systems.
I don't know of any bikes that have plain steel footrests within about the last 50 /60years.
Go & get a new rubber or foot rest fitted

I had a footrest wof fail yrs ago (Suzuki T500) Rubber was there but the the left peg was slightly angled forward from an off. This was an improvement but failed so bent the right one to match to get a pass.

Applicable legislation
Land Transport Rule: Vehicle Equipment 2004.

Mandatory equipment

1. A motorcycle must have:

a) footrests for the rider, and

b) footrests for the pillion passenger if provision is made for pillion riding.

Condition

2. Footrests must be adequate.

Modification

3. A modification that affects a footrest must be inspected and certified by an LVV specialist certifier, unless the vehicle:

a) is excluded from the requirement for LVV certification (Table 2-2-1), and

b) has been inspected in accordance with the requirements in this manual, including those for equipment, condition and performance.

I know a lot of custom Harley pegs are made of billeted aluminium wth no rubber bits. Arlen Ness stuff for example.

LMAO yea thats about what I would expect from Harley gear, slippery as heck when wet.
Even wet toothed rubber is far far better then toothed steel pegs & more more comfortable on a road bike

You can get stuff with hatch patterns, its like VW Beetle exhaust systems, Theres probably 400 different styles for show or go or kaboom.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as sound can be music to ones ears.

Maybe you could use some black heat shrink on the foot rest?

Thanks guys

I happened to look at one of my flatmate's bikes and found the footpeg would fit mine - so I'm borrowing it tomorrow. All sorted

Tight budget? lol.

if the foodpeg is of the round steel rod type then the WOF fail will be for dangerous fixture or fitting.
-Cant remember the exact words but basicly the rod could stab a hole into someone

And that someone could be the person who was riding said machine moments before.

many trail bikes that can be warranted have metal footpegs ( my KTM has them )- should be no issue so long as there are no sharp edges - mind you the metal ones on my bike fold . so that may be an issue if they dont

Think youre missing the point. pegs that are desighned to be steel -no rubber wrap are fine--a ground away on road sharpened 12mm steel spike no so much
