The limitation may well be the clearance inside the wheel well.
What is the car?

Go to a 185/70R13 if the rim width and clearance allows.

165 x 13 has the rolling dia as a 175/70x13. So its a perfect choice. Besides they are only 10mm wider.

Surely there is a number missing in the OP's post. We need to know the profile to establish a comparison, at least according to the calculator I use:

www.topcarguide.com/calculators

If the original tyre is a 165 75 13, then the difference in circumference between the two is only 7.86mm which is negligible. The difference in width is minor too, but the fit should be checked in the wheel well.

Some 165 R 13 's don't have a profile.

Well they do it's just not printed on the sidewall. Traditionally it was 82 however it's now excepted to be 80.

That's what I meant ^^

My calculator has them with 59.69mm less circumference, or -3.2% ( Based on the original being regarded as an 80 profile.

geordiemotors, Sep 19, 9:05am
The standard profile is 80, which means 80 percent of the width of the tyre. So 165R13 is a 165 X 80 X13. I hope this helps.

Woops sorry people. a 165 X 13 is same rolling dia as a 185/70/13, a 155 X13 is same rolling dia as 175/70/13. Best to put the side by side to check.

So a 185/70/13 would be a better choice.
